Armageddon (Photo Time!)

Hi there
Armageddon was this weekend just passed, and it was awesome!
For those who were at the Wellington Armageddon, you might have seen me as fluttershy on Saturday, and River Tam on sunday
there were soo many cool costumes there, and soo much awesome stuff there... i don't think even Dashie's 20% cooler remark will help much here.
I was in a group with two of my friends who dressed up as Rainbow Dash and Derpy for Saturday and Sherlock and Castiel on Sunday.

My Fluttershy wig got a little wonky more than once.

 The highlight of my weekend. That's me and my friends with Julie McNiven, who plays Anna on Supernatural!

Lots of photos were taken... but I only chose a few to go up on this blog
Fluttershy is now officially finished.
River Tam still needs a little work, but it was fine for the day.

Okay so I caved to the demands of the bronies i talk to on facebook and took a pic to show off everything i have ready for my fluttershy costume.

I still need to do the wings and the ears, but then I'm basically done

Princess Luna (update) Wing Patterns and Horn Prototyping part 1

Hi everypony
(This post is Pony related, so it seems fair that i use the language associated with the fandom i'm doing this costume for)

I've spent a large portion of today drawing pegasus pony wing patterns. Open and closed.
Ranging from patterns for wings for the younger characters, (e.g. Scootaloo), older ponies (e.g. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy), I even did seperate patterns for the princesses, Luna and Celestia. Because no doubt, somepony who wants to do a pony cosplay will find them useful.
Photos will be up as soon as i find my camera.

This post also covers unicorn horns.
I made a small one today out of Du-kit, a modelling clay i referenced in an earlier post.
Making it was relatively straight forward.
I took about a third of the clay, then divided that in two.
made two shapes that resembled spikes.
Then twisted the two together. and your basically done.
But it seems a little heavy and a little small, especially at the length it needs to be for Luna, so i might try another way or find a way to make it lighter. this method would be fine for any unicorn character besides the princesses.


also considering doing costumes for: Lyra/Heartstrings, Twilight Sparkle and Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo
But i want to get some of my other cosplay costumes out of the way first, and i also want to attempt some Dr Horrible goggles, because those are just awesome.

New Costume: Princess Luna

hi...
I didn't expect to be updating today.
This is one of the costumes i would like to get done before the end of 2012 (No i do not believe the world is going to end in 2012, it's just after that point i'll be getting ready to go or be going to University, so not much time for cosplay.... :(
This one makes me a little nervous though... Not as nervous as the Kaylee ruffle dress, but this one could be a little tricky. Especially after this character's sudden change in appearance from her first appearance in the second half of the pilot of season 1 to her next appearance in early season 2.
I'm talking about Princess Luna from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I'm gonna go with her season 1 appearance, just because i like it more, and it's easy to match colours to, because she's not in darkness like she is in season 2.

Needed

Light blue semi-long wig - Need to buy
Dress - could be tricky as i want something a little old fashioned for her in a specific colour - might have to make myself....
Ears, Wings and Horn - I can make these myself
Shoes- buy
Crown- I could make this... but it could be just easier to buy a little kid tiara and decorate that.

Updates for Illyria, River Tam and Fluttershy

Finally got 'round to taking photos of my Illyria make up, decided in the end not to get the contacts.

Not much, but it will do

River Tam
Found a better dress at the bottom of my closet, a dress i didn't even know i had.
It's a little short, and it's not blue enough to be completely accurate, but it will do for tomorrow until I have time to sew a proper one.

Fluttershy
Not much as all i did was fix the cutie mark again.
The butterflies aren't that much work, just a little ribbon, thread and a strip of blue felt, safety pinned to the dress.

Ponies and cosplay (update)

Okay didn't complete my fluttershy costume. it still needs the wig, wings, ears, tail and Angel Bunny. We have decided on an anthro style costumes
And one of the butterflies for the cutie mark came off.
Still had a fun time at the pony party, made cupcakes and watched pony, nothing majorly special.
No pics as i didn't have enough charge in the camera and she didn't have one.

So didn't end up going cosplay shopping.
I really need to get that done before i go back to school...

Gonna draw up a River overdress pattern tomorrow as i think i have a dress in a similar style and length to the River's overdress.

Updates for Illyria, River Tam and Fluttershy

Illyria

Didn't end up going shopping today, that has been moved to tomorrow. So getting Illyria make up will have to wait until tomorrow. that's it for that costume.

River Tam

I have a dress that is the right length to be a mock underdress, so i can work with that for now.
So i can start on prototypes soon. But i need to do a little more research first as the dress isn't shown that well in the movie, which is annoying, but not so annoying as to put me off making this costume completely.
okay the dress has side seams apparently, well at least the bottom half does from what i can see from the 'jellyfish dress' shot on Miranda

Fluttershy

Me and my best friend are cosplaying tomorrow in a late celebration of it being 1 year since the first ep of MLP:FiM aired. we were both busy on the actual day so yeah.
So me and her are gonna have a pony party and dress up as Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy.
I'll try and get a wig for tomorrow and i'm gonna make some temporary coloured card wings, my final ones will be felt or feathered, if i have the cash, unfortunately i'm rather lacking in yellow felt or feathers right now, so card ones will have to do.
I can finish the felt Angel bunny plushie and her cutie mark tonight though.

I'd better get onto that now then...

Also considering getting a couple of wigs from this site
The luna one and the pale pink one. But it racks up to over $100 including postage, (i know it adds up to $75 on the site, but i live outside the US, so it's not quite so cheap)
which is why i'm only considering it at this point. But it's still cheaper than other sites though.
The Luna one might be worth getting though as a Coraline wig, I could always just say she grew her hair out.
I'll have to ask.
Also Considering dressing up as Princess Luna for Halloween next year... If i don't hate the character by then, So a good Luna wig might be worth getting before that.

My quest to find a pattern for River Tam's blue dress she wears in the movie isn't going well.
Found a site which sells them for over $200 nz dollars for one not including postage.... I'm willing to spend money on a costume, just not that much, it's cheaper for me to make it myself.
The dress is here if anyone wants to see it, it's pretty close actually.
At least now i know that it's actually two dresses instead of the one which could be annoying.
If anyone finds a good set of instructions or pattern online that will be a big help!

Shopping trip costume bits photos and possible new costume and hiatus

Hiya
another update, containing a notice of hiatus due to upcoming school exams, and
photos of what I got on my shopping day which i blogged about a couple of weeks ago

Firstly to Illyria


Red top [X] Check
I still need...
Blue lipstick
Blue eyeliner
blue temporary hairspray
Icy blue contacts
a Red skirt
and metallic blue base make up of some sort
(I don't have a clue about make up... I don't usually wear it)

Wonderbolt Hoodie


Okay so it's slightly darker shade of blue than i wanted
You can't really tell from the photo, the light from my room washes out a lot of the blueness of it.
Changing fabric or thread to fabric paint because it will be less time consuming to apply and will be cheaper.
So still need to get that in white and yellow
and I'm still trying to work out how on earth i'm gonna do the goggles.....
I'll get back to you readers on that.

Okay realized my hoodie is too dark a blue for it's original purpose.
So, dark blue, a couple of light blue shades, and white fabric paint will be needed to turn it into a Princess Luna Hoodie.

And Finally the River Tam Boots


Best find ever
$50 dollars from the warehouse. I don't know how long they will last, but still a good find.
Worn with my blue dress, Instant River Tam costume.
Okay, it's not that accurate. but still, it's better to have something close then nothing, right.

Okay now on to my possible costume....

I've found instructions for the goggles online (Click here)
and i have a labcoat i can use as well as the white trousers, so just need the stuff for the goggles, the white gumboots and gloves and that costume is done.

Shopping trip (Updates for Illyria and Wonderbolt Hoodie, also River Tam)

Went shopping today and managed to get the Blue hoodie I need as a base for my wonderbolt hoodie.
Still need yellow thread and time to make it though.

I also managed to get a redish top for my Illyria costume
which leaves a redish skirt, the blue contacts, and blue make up, and temporary blue hair spray to get.

I also found a perfect pair of boots for a River Tam costume,
Which still leaves a dress for that costume.

So yeah
That's my update.

Ponies have taken over my brain (Update, Ponies and New Temporary project)

Okay for those who are not familiar with the My Little Pony craze that is sweeping through the internet like a plague let me catch you up.

*thinks hard* hmmmmm
Okay I can't really catch you up. I have no clue how i got addicted to My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic in the first place.
but while surfing the interwebs looking for cute pics of ponies

I stumbled onto this, A design for a wonderbolts hoodie. My brain went ... then went crazy.
The wonderbolts are the top flying team in Equestria....
Here is one of the mane cast modeling the outfits the wonderbolts wear in the show.
I have seen designs for hoodies of some of the other characters as well, which are cool too.

So that's my project for the next few weeks, I've also seen a few designs for other stuff like dresses. Some of which are really pretty. like a humanised version of fluttershy's gala dress
or this one of rarity she has done one for each of the mane cast so yeah.
I might attempt one a bit later in the year.
haven't found anything for princess luna yet for that area, please let me know if you find something

For this project I'm going to need
[ ] plain, bright blue hoodie
[ ] lots of either yellow fabric or embroidery thread
[ ] Time to do this.
